WASHINGTON — More than a third of Senate Democrats
urged US President Joe Biden's administration on Wednesday evening to take a
"bold" step towards establishing a Palestinian state, marking a new
firm stance towards Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

According to The Washington Post, the message
directed at Biden comes just days after Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer,
the highest-ranking elected American Jewish politician and a strong supporter
of Israel, was shocked by a speech criticizing Netanyahu's handling of the war
in Gaza and calling for new elections in Israel, Al-Ghad reported.
19 Democratic senators, led by Biden ally and
Delaware native Tom Carper, stated in a letter that the Middle East crisis has
"reached a turning point" requiring U.S. leadership beyond
"facilitating" Israeli-Palestinian talks. Therefore, they are
requesting Biden's administration to immediately outline a bold framework
defining the necessary steps for establishing a Palestinian state in both the
occupied West Bank and Gaza Strip.
The senators noted that an independent,
"non-militarized" Palestinian state recognizing Israel is a proposal
that former President Bill Clinton adopted in his peace efforts two decades
ago.
