The match is the next in Wehdat’s path in the
AFC Champions League, which met a dead end after their loss to Qatar’s
Al-Sadd on Friday.
Nassr is in the lead of Group D (8pts.), followed by Sadd (7pts.), Foolad (5pts.) and Wehdat (1pt.) in second, third and fourth places, respectively.
Wehdat coach, Abdullah Abu Zema, commended his players’ performance in the AFC tournament and urged them to put their best forward in today’s match.
“We looked (strong) against the Qatari Sadd in our last match. I hope you do your best against Al-Nassr.
Stay focused and seize every opportunity to score,” Abu Zema told his players following their last training session; in a video posed on Wehdat’s official website.
Wehdat will be missing their defender, Yazan Al-Arab, after he received a red card in the team’s previous match against Sadd.
For his part, Nassr’s coach, Mano Menezes, said in press statements that “there will be no room for error or for the team to lose any points against Wehdat, should they wish to stay in the lead and qualify as the group’s (Group D) champion — especially since their last match ended in a (0-0) tie.
Nassr will be missing the following players in today’s match: Firas Al-Buraikan, Osama Al-Khalaf, Abdulrahman Al-Obaid, Abdulaziz Al-Alawi and goalkeeper, Brad Jones.
The leaders of each group and the top three runners up will qualify for the 16-team playoffs for the West region. The final playoffs for the “home” and “away” stages will be held on November 21 and November 27, respectively.
