Alayyan told Jordan News: “We are proceeding
with the plan we drew out. And our qualification for the World Cup for the
second year in a row, and the third time in history, is inching closer and will
be achieved by Sous.”
“This is an achievement we will achieve ourselves,
it will not be gifted to us,” he added.
Alayyan praised the support the Falcons received
during their matches against the Philippines and New Zealand in Amman. “We
dedicate this joy to all Jordanian fans. Our players proved to the world that
we deserve to be at the World Cup once again.”
“Considering our loss to the Philippines — a strong
team — even the most optimistic people did not expect us to beat New Zealand,”
he said. “We exceeded expectations and our players were precise with their
delivery, and they were able to accomplish the task.”
The Falcons lost their match against the Philippines
66–74, then beat New Zealand 92–75 during the fifth stage of the Asian World
Cup qualifiers.
The Falcons were
able to maintain their position in fourth place in the Group C standings with
12 points. Lebanon leads the standings with 15 points, followed by New Zealand
second with 14 points, the Philippines third with 13 points, Saudi Arabia fifth
with 10 points, and India sixth with eight points.
