Hashem Abbas, who helped Al-Ahli win the Jordanian
basketball Cup and the Premier League last season, has joined Saudi Al-Hilal on
a one-season contract.
"I think this is a good opportunity for me as a first
step in my career, I am now waiting for the visa to be issued in order to
travel to Saudi Arabia and join training with my new team," Abbas told
Jordan News.
"I will stop studying and just have a bachelor's degree
at this stage, and I hope to contribute to my new team winning the Saudi league
title.
"I want to prove myself and get the MVP award. I will
play alongside the giant Mohamed Al-Suwailem who won this award last
season."
When asked about his choice to play in the Saudi league, he
replied: "I didn't get tempting offers locally, there were formal
negotiations with Al-Orthodox and some talks with Al-Wehadat, but I preferred
to experience another league.”
Hashem Abbas became the third Jordanian player to leave for
the Saudi league, after Freddie Ibrahim moved to the Ahli Jeddah club and
Khaled Abu Abboud to the Al-Salam club.
Amin Abu Hawass and Sami bazayeh are with the Al-Shamal club
in Qatar.
