AMMAN — The
Jordan Basketball Federation (JBF)
is slated to perform a “comprehensive re-evaluation” of the national team
following a 70-89 loss to Lebanon in the third stage of the Asian qualifiers
for the 2023 World Cup, according to its president, Mohamed Alayyan.

The re-evaluation will also include the team’s
technical staff, he said, as the team’s underperformance in
Lebanon “does not
meet our ambitions”.
“We are not sorry for this result against a strong
team like Lebanon on its soil and among its fans, but it is concerning that we
appear at this meager technical level,” Alayyan said in an interview with
Jordan News.
“We lacked the spirit of hawks that our national team
is known for.”
He conceded that “important segments” of the team were
injured in the preparation stage, but said that “it is not ... an excuse to
affect performance”.
“We will evaluate this stage and take the appropriate
decisions.”
The first national basketball team will conclude its
campaign in the first round of the Asian qualifiers by facing Indonesia at
3:30pm on Monday in the Istora Senayan in Jakarta, Indonesia.
