AMMAN — The first national basketball team, the
Jordan Falcons, are one match away from qualifying for the World Cup after
their win over New Zealand on Sunday at the Prince Hamza Hall.

The Falcons beat New Zealand score of 92–75 (first
half 41–41).
The match was part of the fifth window of the Asian
qualifiers for the 2023 FIBA World Cup.
The national team
needs one win over India or the Philippines in its last two games in the sixth
window to formally qualify for the World Cup for the second consecutive year
and the third time in total.
New Zealand and
Lebanon secured their qualification
along with the Philippines, which is one of the World Cup hosts, along with
Indonesia and Japan.
The national team maintained its fourth place in the
fifth group standings with 12 points, while New Zealand temporarily led with 14
points, followed by Lebanon with 13 points, the Philippines with 13 points,
Saudi Arabia remained in fifth place with 10 points, and India was last with
sever points.
The sixth and final qualifying window starts on
February 24, 2022, with the national team playing against India, before meeting
its Philippine counterpart in Manila on February 27.
