Former manager Marwan Mautuq’s move to step back from his position, in order to be a full-time member of the federation’s board of directors, comes at a time when the new manager, Wessam Al-Sous, is expected to arrive in Jordan in the next few days to help the Jordan Falcon’s prepare for 2023 FIBA World Cup qualifiers.
The national team begins their run for the world cup, with Saudi in Amman and then again in Riyadh, on November 26 and 29 for the group 3 matches.
President of the Jordan Basketball Federation, Mohamed Alayyan, expressed his gratitude to Matuq, stating: “Coach Marwan Matuq came for a clear mission. He sacrificed for the sake of the nation and favored the interests of the team and basketball at the expense of his time and his work.”
He added: “We thank him for his previous efforts. He did a good job and left a mark on the Jordan Falcons. Today, he has decided to continue his work at the council level.”
Sous has previously served as the head basketball manager and head coach at the DME Sports Academy in the United States, and helped Jordanian basketball qualify for the 2009 FIBA World Cup and take part in the 2010 world finals in Turkey.
With the national team, he has previously won the Asian Elite Championship, the Arab Cup, and the William Jones International Cup twice.
The 2015 World Cup was the last international championship for Sous.
