In exclusive remarks
to Jordan News, Nassar said: “It is reprehensible to spread rumors of this sort
at this stage, which constitutes a crucial point in the national team’s career.
I would like to assure that Borkelmans is still the national team’s coach and
his performance will be assessed after the end of the Asian qualifiers.”
The name of national
coach Ahmad Abdul Qader on the list of Jordan’s envoy to Kuwait had sparked
controversy on whether he would become Borkelmans’ successor, alongside rumors
that Borkelmans was absent during Jordan’s match against Vietnam.
“Abdul Qader’s name on
the list was an error on Kuwait’s part and we contacted them about correcting
it as he was not there representing the team in a professional capacity,”
Nassar explained.
Jordan is scheduled to
play against Nepal on June 7 as part of Group B in the 2022 Qatar World Cup and
Asia Cup final qualifiers, before facing Kuwait on June 11 and Australia on
June 15.
Jordan and Kuwait are
currently tied in second place (10pts. each) as Australia remains in the lead
of Group B (12pts.), Nepal in fourth (3pts.) and China in fifth (0pts.)
