At the Khalifa International Stadium in
Doha, Jordan’s team initially advanced through Yazan Al-Naimat, but Iraq
surpassed them with two goals through Saad Natiq and Ayman Hussein. However,
Hussein was given a second yellow-card and sent off for excessive celebration
and wasting time, which Iraq’s team would soon regret. The wasted time was
compensated for in overtime, in which Jordan scored its two victory goals,
surpassing Iraq.
This is the third time Jordan will be
proceeding into the AFC Asian Cup quarterfinals, the first two times being in
the 2004 and 2011 Asian Cups.
The Jordan national football team will
face Tajikistan next, who defeated the UAE team on Sunday.
