AMMAN —
Jordan’s Ahmad Al-Duwairi joined his
teammates on the Kingdom’s first-division basketball team in the
FIBA’s health
bubble on Wednesday as they prepare for their run in the final window of the
2021 Asia Cup qualifiers scheduled between June 12 and June 14.

Duwairi is set to play in the qualifiers
alongside the following players: Amine Abu Hawas, Malek Kanaan, Sami Bzai’,
Ahmad Hamarsheh and Mohammad Shaher. These five players were switched out with
a number of players, including Fredy Ibrahim, Ahmad Obaid. Youssef Abu Wazneh,
Ibrahim Hamati, Khaled Abu Abboud, Nader Ahmad and Ghaith Faraj.
Jordan has played three friendlies in
preparation for the qualifiers so far, twice against Saudi Arabia, where the
team lost their first game (89-69) but
one the second (76-74). Jordan also won their third match against Qatar on May
7 (69-57).
“In its current form, the team is still
considered new and getting it organized is no easy task, but the boys have
proven themselves by consistently increasing their performance,” National team
coach, Marwan Matouq told Jordan News.
“We are very confident in every player and the
role they play in every game and I will use everything in my arsenal to get the
job done,” Matouq continued, adding that the chemistry between players is
gradually starting to take over.
Matouq called on fans to rally behind the “new”
team. “This team is new and represents the future identity of Jordanian
basketball, so we must all stand behind the team, eschew insults and
unconstructive criticize while we get the team together at this stage.”
Fans will be able to watch the 2021 Asia Cup qualifiers on beIN sports and a
number of television channels.
Jordan is set to
host the Group E and Group F qualifier matches between June 12 and June 14,
which will see the Kingdom’s team vying for a qualification card in games
against Palestine (June 12), Kazakhstan (June 13) and Palestine again (June
14).
