AMMAN –
Jordanian
Paralympic powerlifter, Abdul Karim Khattab, set the world record
twice in the 88kg weight class, lifting 237 kg, and 240 kg on his second
attempt at the Fazza International Weightlifting Championships for Persons with
Disabilities.

In the
event that took place yesterday (Monday) at the Dubai Club Hall for People of
Determination, Khattab broke the world record, won the gold medal, and snatched
the official qualification card for the 2021 Tokyo Paralympics. The tournament
was held under stringent health measures, with no festivities or audience, and was
attended by athletes from 54 countries.
Amer
Al-Shaar, head of the Jordanian delegation to Dubai, expressed his delight and
pride in the athlete’s achievement in the competition, emphasizing, in
statements to the Jordan Olympic Committee’s (
JOC) website, his confidence in
the team’s ability to win several medals at the main event.
Leading
the Paralympic team, Amer al-Shaar, is a member and chairman of the committee’s
board of directors, Daoud Shehadeh as administrator, Ahmed Hiasat as sports
therapist, Issa Hilal as coach, Ahmed Abu al-Rub as assistant coach, and five
weightlifters: Omar Qaradah, 49kg, Muhammad Tarbash, 65kg, Abdul Karim Khattab,
88kg, Moataz Al-Juneidi, 97kg, and Jamil al-Shibli for more than 107kg
category, in addition to the two powerlifters, Asmaa Issa 79kg, and Tharwa Al-
Hajjaj 86kg.
