DOHA — The
Qatar Masters Chess Championship
commenced on Wednesday for its third edition and is set to feature some of the
top players globally, including participants from Jordan.

Featuring 250 male and female players
representing 42 countries, it will be in the Swiss system format over 9 rounds,
Al Mamlaka TV reported.
The championship will continue until the
October 20, with a total prize fund of 120,000 dollars. Among the participants,
there are 62 grandmasters, representatives from 16
Arab countries, and India
records the highest number of participants with 76 players.
Regarding prominent Arab players, the Qatari
team will be represented by International Master Hussein Aziz, ranked 141st in
the championship. UAE's Salem Abdul Rahman, ranked 14th, who secured second
place in the 2021 Arab and Africa Individual Chess Championship, will be
participating. Algerian Bilal Boulahsen, ranked 44th, Tunisian Kamel Najili,
ranked 88th, Moroccan Mohammed Taysir, ranked 128th, and Egyptian Adham Fawzi,
ranked 40th, will also be present. Meanwhile, his compatriot Bassem Amin will
be missing from the championship.
