AMMAN — Jordan lost (5-1) to the UAE in Monday’s
international friendly in Dubai, which the two teams played as part of a
training camp to gear up for the 2022
Qatar World Cup and 2023 Asia Cup double
qualifiers.

Ali Mabkhout scored the UAE’s first, third and fourth goals,
while Khalil Ibrahim scored the second, and Caio Canedo, the fifth. Odai
Al-Saifi scored Jordan’s only goal.
The match was played behind closed doors as the two coaches
said they preferred to keep competitors in the dark about their respective
strategies.
Jordan’s technical coach, Vital Borkelmans refused to
comment on the loss, which had triggered local critics and analysts to call for
his resignation in show of accountability.
The Kingdom — playing in Group B — will head to Kuwait on
June 1 to complete their run in qualifiers, playing against Nepal, Kuwait and
Australia on June 7, June 11 and June 15, respectively.
The UAE is in Group G of the double qualifiers, and will be
playing the remainder of its games against Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia and
Vietnam on June 3, June 7, June 11 and June 15, respectively.
Jordan and Kuwait are currently tied in second place (10pts.
each) as Australia remains in the lead of Group B (12pts.), Nepal in fourth (3pts.)
and China in fifth (0pts.)
