AMMAN — The women’s national football team on Sunday jet off
to the Armenian capital, Yerevan, to compete in an international friendly
championship; scheduled for April 7.

Partaking in the tournament — set to last until April 13 —
is among the Jordanian team’s preparations for the 2022 AFC Women’s Asian Cup
qualifiers, which are scheduled between September 13 and September 25.
The team will begin making their way through the Armenian
championship with a match against Lithuania on April 7, followed by games
against Armenia and Lebanon on April 10 and April 12 respectively.
Explaining the player selection criteria for the championship;
the national team’s coach, David Nascimento was quoted by the Jordan Football
Federation’s (JFA) website as saying: “The names on the list (were selected) on
the basis of long-term assessment and monitoring since the beginning of the
preparation stage.”
Nascimento added: “This tournament is important as it marks
the first step in preparation for the official event (AFC qualifiers). We look
forward to achieving the objectives of the championship, which include
monitoring the players’ performance and boosting their cohesion.”
Team members and accompanying staff have all tested negative
for COVID-19, in compliance with the health protocol followed by all teams
wishing to play outside Jordan; according to an official statement published on
the JFA website.
