AMMAN — Racers in the 38th edition of the Jordan Rally — in
the second round of the Middle East Rally Championship (MERC) — are gearing up
to begin testing the courses ahead of the beginning of the competition on
Thursday in the Dead Sea.
The six-stage rally has a total distance of 224.98km, where
day-one stages are scheduled to begin on Friday. The stages are: Siyaghah 1,
Adassiyah 1 and Al-Maghtas 1 (Baptism Site in English) and boast a combined
distance of 112.54km, of which 56.85km are allocated to special stages. Day-two
stages will begin on Saturday and include: Siyaghah 2, Adassiyah 2 and
Al-Maghtas 2, with a total distance of 112.44km, of which 85.56km are allocated
to special stages.
The Jordan Rally allows competitors to accumulate points as
part of International Automobile Federation (FIA) championships (for drivers
and co-drivers), MERC 2 (for drivers and co-drivers), MERC 3 (for drivers and
co-drivers) and junior tournament for drivers.
The championship’s organizing committee has issued the
health protocol that has been put in place, including public safety rules and
regulations. A total of 13 racers have registered for this year’s Jordan rally
from Qatar, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Oman, Lebanon and Jordan.
Qatar’s Nasser Al-Attiyah, 16-time champion of the MERC and
13-time champion of the Jordan Rally will have the chance to score a 14th win.
