AMMAN — Qatari racer, Nasser Al-Attiyah, took the 2021 Jordan Rally by storm when he bagged a record 14th win and finished 17:05.8 apart from the runner-up, Mashari Al-Dhufeiri.

Attiyah and his French co-driver, Mathieu Baumel, shot to victory in a Volkswagen Polo GT-R5 after finishing all stages of the two-day rally, including a total of 10 special stages, with the fastest timings.
The special stages were organized in the Dead Sea and Mount Nebo regions, which helped secure Attiyah’s temporary lead in the general scoreboard
This year’s
Jordan Rally is the second round of the
Middle East Rally Championship (MERC). Attiyah is on a course to nabbing his 17th MERC title.
In remarks to the local organizing committee, Attiyah said: “It feels great, it was a good rally for us as we won again for the 14th time in Jordan and we are in the lead of the MERC. The next step is to take part in the International Lebanon Rally to defend our title.”
This year’s runner up, Kuwait’s Dhufeiri, started the rally with a 40.8 second lead in the Group N category and managed to take hold of the category competition, after his closest competitor Alex Fghali began to drive more cautiously on the last day of the rally to maintain his position in third.
Speaking to the organizers, Fghali said: The rally went generally well and we got through all the stages and to the finish line. This is my first time finishing this rally and standing on the winner’s podium, which is great.”
Meanwhile, the national rally’s second round — held in parallel with the international tournament — went to Khaled Jumaa who defeated Shadi Shaaban. Shaaban explained that despite coming in fourth in the international Jordan rally, noting that this was his best performance yet.
