Tandem drift, in
its simplest form, is when one car takes the lead and starts drifting and is
then followed by the chase car drifting behind it. In the second round, they
switch places. Winners are determined by points given by judges according to
certain qualifications.
Tandem drift
began, for the first time officially in Jordan, last July, and audiences
crowded the arena in excitement.
This time around,
the tandem drift race hosted fewer foreign racers, consisting of 33 cars in two
stages, and participants were from Syria, Palestine, and Jordan. Of these, the
top 24 qualified and continued competing individually in the qualifications
stage till the top eight qualified immediately and guaranteed their spot for
the race, leaving 16 cars to compete in the second stage.
In the race, only
eight cars were left of the 16 and competed with the top eight cars. The cars
continued to race for the semifinals.
Zain Jordan sponsored the
event.
