AMMAN — Abdelaziz Bouteflika, the former Algerian President, passed away today, Saturday, at the age of 84, according to Al-Ghad News.
Bouteflika was the seventh president of Algeria since its independence from France in 1962.
The former President led the country for two decades before stepping down in 2019 due to street protests caused by Bouteflika’s plan to hold a fifth term in office.
Bouteflika was rarely seen in public since 2013 due to a stroke that affected his health.
