AMMAN — Jordan must revoke the peace
treaty and subsequent agreements with Israel and expel the Israeli ambassador
from the Kingdom, the president of the
Jordan Bar Association said Mazen Irshaidat, according
to Jo24.

Irshaidat said the call for moves were an
appropriate response to a statement by the Israeli Prime Minister Naftali
Bennett.
Last week, Bennett said there will be no “foreign
interference” in the fate of the “Temple Mount”, as
Al-Haram Al-Sharif is known
to Jews, and asserted that decisions on occupied Jerusalem will be made solely
by Israel.
The statement was seen as a breach by Israel of its
commitments, including the peace treaty it signed with Jordan in 1994. The
accord envisaged a “special” Jordanian role in caring for
Muslim and Christian holy shrines in Jerusalem.
Traditionally, the Kingdom has been a custodian of
the shrines in the city, which Israel captured from Jordan in the 1967
Arab-Israeli war.
Irshaidat told Jo24 that Israel views Jordan as an
“alternative temporary country” and considers the Jordan’s custodianship role
as limited to furnishment, maintenance, and appointment of guards in the holy
shrines in Jerusalem.
“The situation is unbearable and the
Jordanian government must take action,” he insisted.
He explained that the Jordanian response must be
with deeds, not words. “The government must take serious and strict decisions
and not respond with statements.”
Irshaidat also said the Israel must know that Jordan
is able to “take decisions and impose a new status quo”.
