The announcement came during a session and field trip to several wind power plants, organized by the commission. According to EMRC, the electricity is produced by eight wind-power plants, 7 of which are owned by the private sector and one for the government.

The one plant that is owned by the government follows Samra Electric Power Company and has an annual capacity of 200MW through 40 wind turbines, according to EMRC.

The commission mentioned that the plant was completed through a grant by Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development. The plant was connected with the national network by end of 2016.

“Wind power contributed about 540MW to the peak capacity recorded by the electrical system during the peak of last winter, which recorded 4,010MW that contributed to the stability of the grid at that time” stated the EMRC.
