Jordan to activate UNSCR 1325 on Women, Peace and Security

AMMAN — Minister of State for Legal Affairs and Head of the Inter-Ministerial Committee for Women Empowerment, Wafa Bani Mustafa, chaired the annual meeting of the Jordan National Action Plan (JONAP) Program Board of Directors to activate the UN Security Council Resolution 1325 on Women, peace, and Security, according to the Jordan News Agency, Petra.اضافة اعلان

Bani Mustafa, in the presence of Minister of Tourism and Antiquities Nayef Al-Fayez, Minister of Youth Muhammad Al-Nabulsi, Minister of Digital Economy and Entrepreneurship Ahmed Al-Hanandeh, and Minister of State for Media Affairs Faisal Al-Shboul, said that the Resolution 1325 has not been implemented so far, except by 21 members of the UN out of 192 countries.

Bani Mustafa stressed that Jordan supported the national plan to activate Resolution 1325 in December of 2017, based on the Jordanian state leadership and institutions’ belief in the prominent role played by Jordanian women in the development process.

To empower women in the military and security sectors, Bani Mustafa reviewed the priorities the ministerial committee adopted in its plan, noting the recommendations that support women’s participation since women in wars and conflicts are the most vulnerable to violence and poverty.

For her part, Canadian Ambassador to Amman Donica Pottie commended the opportunity to evaluate what has been achieved in the resolution implementation plan, noting that the participation of decision-makers in this event confirms the seriousness of the Jordanian state in caring for women, peace, and security.

Secretary General of the Jordanian National Commission for Women, Salma Nims said that 87.5 percent of the currently implemented plan has been completed that funded by the joint fund, which includes the governments of Canada, Finland, Norway, Spain, and the United Kingdom, with a value JD8.5 million, in addition to JD1.5 million from the Jordanian government.
