In a session
chaired by Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research Wajih Owais,
the council approved the nomination of the Accreditation and Quality Assurance
Commission for Higher Education Institutions, and to suspend admission to 42
majors in Jordanian public universities for the academic year 2022–2023 as a
result of a breach of special accreditation standards, or for exceeding the
absorptive capacities.
The council
discussed the report of the
Civil Services Bureau, which includes indicators of
the supply and demand process for specializations in the civil service for
holders of university degrees or of a community colleges diploma for the year
2022.
The council
announced a plan for implementing a gradual timeframe to reduce the number of
students admitted to medical disciplines (medicine, dentistry, doctor of
pharmaceutical studies, pharmacy) in public universities starting with the
2022–2023 academic year.
The council
directed private and public universities and community colleges to create new
disciplines required for the local, regional and global labor market, and
emphasized that students should enroll in the “technical” specializations
required in the labor market, which are offered for admission at the diploma
and bachelor levels in all universities and intermediate university colleges,
where these specialties will be announced through a special link listed on the
website and the e-mail of the Unified
Admission Coordination Unit.
Owais also asked
that study plans for all disciplines be reconsidered and developed to include
the required functional skills and knowledge areas that enable university
graduates to obtain international professional certificates in some disciplines
that will increase their chances of getting suitable job opportunities.
The council
directed public and private universities and colleges to continue working to
develop university requirements, including courses that are compatible with the
requirements of the labor market, namely: leadership and innovation, leadership
and social responsibility, life skills, digital skills, communication skills
(English, Arabic), and environment and sustainability education.
The council also requested intermediate colleges, and the
public and private
Jordanian universities to provide the Higher Education
Council with annual reports that include the numbers of graduate students from
each university/college and their employment rate in the Kingdom and abroad,
distributed according to specializations.
