The team from the US federal health agency, headed
by Regional Director of the Middle East and North Africa Heather Burke, arrived
in the Kingdom on Sunday on a several-day visit.
JCDC’s Chief Raeda Al-Qutob discussed cooperation
with the CDC combating epidemics and infectious diseases, promoting public
health practices to fight such diseases and bioterrorism threats, and boosting
Jordan’s health surveillance and information systems.
Qutob said the center was established upon a Royal
directive in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic to curb the spread of diseases,
in coordination with regional and global partners.
The delegation’s
visit followed a series of virtual meetings with the center in this field with
the aim of benefiting from their 70-year expertise and pave the way for further
future collaboration and the exchange of know-how, she said.
In addition to setting up a disease information
system through multi-sectoral monitoring, the JCDC also seeks to launch a
monitoring system and laboratory information network.
The center has full government support to address
hindrances to its work, she said, noting cooperation with the ministries of
health and digital economy to build a database.
The JCDC is organizing a series of meetings between the US
agency and Jordanian officials, and government and global entities.
