AMMAN— Head of the olive research department at the National Center for Agricultural Research, Engineer Ibrahim Amad, said that the olives in Jordan are subject to drought "just like the nature of a Jordanian who endures pressure,” Khaberni News reported.اضافة اعلان

 

A team from the center conducted a research in cooperation with two universities, proving that the genetic origin of olives grown in Spain, Italy, Cyprus and all over the world is from Ajloun.

 

Amad explained that the period of Muslims’ stay in the Levant contributed to the transfer of olives to Andalusia.

He pointed out that the research had a great impression, and it was proved that the origin of olives all over the world is of the type of olive mahras (Al-Nabalia Albaladi) from Al-Maysir area in Ajloun.

 

He noted that the name Al-Mahras olive was Rumi, but it was replaced by an Arabic name, which is Al-Mahras, which means "a camel smashes anything it sets on."
