It added that
these retirees will be returning to the Kingdom.
Ministry spokesperson Sinan Al-Majali said that the decision was reached
after several retirees, representing others, attended a meeting at Jordan’s
embassy in
Doha with Ambassador Zaid Mufleh Al-Lawzi. The meeting, which lasted
for hours, was attended by representatives of the Jordanian community in Qatar
as well.
The Qatari
government said it will pay $1,500 per retiree, and arrange for return air
tickets; the sum is in addition to the amount they had received from the
private company under the terms of the contract, as a contribution from the
Qatari government, “to resolve the issue”, Majali said.
Some 6,000
Jordanian retirees had been individually contracted by a private company to
work for a limited period, till after the conclusion of the World Cup, to
provide security and protection.
Majali said that
the ministry, through the Jordanian embassy in Qatar, has been coordinating
with the relevant authorities to investigate whether contractual obligations
were violated by the contracting private security company, to ensure that the
appropriate measures are taken, in accordance with the law.
“Qatar’s hosting
of the
FIFA World Cup 2022 is an achievement for all Arabs,” the spokesperson
said, expressing the Kingdom’s keenness to make the tournament successful.
Voicing pride in the
military retirees, Majali expressed confidence in the Jordanians’ ability to
address the issue in accordance with Qatari law.
