AMMAN — The Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research has said that JD50 million owed by students who benefited from grants and loans offered by the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research through the Student Support Fund have not been paid, Al-Mamlaka TV reported.اضافة اعلان

Ministry’s spokesman Muhannad Al-Khatib said that repayment of a loan begins two years after a university degree is obtained, and continues for five years.

He added that graduates may contact the Ministry of Higher Education, and if the monthly instalment is not commensurate with their income, it can be reduced.

According to Khatib, the application for grants and loans offered by the Higher Education Ministry through the Student Support Fund is fully computerized, and to apply, students should visit the website of the Scholarships Directorate.

He added that applicants cannot choose the type of scholarships, since that process is computerized, and that once the student’s academic data is checked, the ministry announces what funds the applicant can compete for.

According to Khatib, 33,000 students are expected to be nominated for grants and loans this year, based on “available financial data”; to date, 80,000 students have applied.
