AMMAN — Minister of Agriculture Khaled Huneifat and Director General of the Jordan River Foundation (JRF) Enaam Barrishi Monday signed agreements to provide grants to Syrian refugees and Jordanians participating in the joint project “Small-Ruminants Investment and Graduating Households in Transitions”, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.اضافة اعلان

The project aims to enable and guide beneficiaries as they establish productive projects or expand their existing projects to improve their living and economic conditions. It also seeks to support the stability of the families of beneficiaries after rehabilitating them and enhancing their capabilities.

The project will be implemented in two phases. The first phase includes agreements with 795 beneficiaries in the governorates of Mafraq, Jerash, Ajloun, Amman, Irbid, and Madaba within the agricultural, production, construction, service, and trade sectors.

In the second phase, the project provides financial grants to beneficiaries to establish sustainable and income-generating small projects and create suitable job opportunities.

The project focuses on improving the small ruminant sector (sheep and goats), helping Syrian refugees and Jordanian host communities, supporting people with disabilities, empowering women economically and socially, and fostering a culture of entrepreneurship.

The project’s second phase aims to create job opportunities for no less than 222 beneficiaries through networking opportunities with the private sector.

JRF has signed about 50 strategic agreements with private sector companies to provide suitable job opportunities for local community members.

According to Huneifat, the project succeeded in reaching target groups, including the children and residents of the Jordanian countryside and the Syrian refugees.

Through the project, the ministry has already provided financial grants to about 1,154 beneficiary families in the Mafraq, Irbid, Jerash, Ajloun, Madaba, and Amman, and 136 young men and women from these families became part of the labor market and were paid through the project.

The project’s activities, said Huneifat, are part of government efforts to achieve a 5 percent growth in the GDP by focusing on developing the agricultural sector and supporting the Jordan Response Plan to the Syrian Crisis.

Barrishi, during the signing, stressed the importance of following up on the beneficiaries after receiving the grant or getting hired to help them address and overcome any challenges they may face.

The project is funded by the International Fund for Agricultural Development.
