AMMAN — Around 200 rideshare app and yellow cab
drivers staged a sit-in at Abdoun Corridor in Amman on Wednesday to protest
fuel prices, joining truck drivers who have been on strike since Sunday, local
media outlets reported.

The drivers demanded support in the form of preferential
prices for oil derivatives for public transport vehicles so that they would not
be affected by rising fuel prices.
Buses at Amman’s South Bus Station also joined the strike on
Wednesday, reported Khaberni. They also cited the increase in fuel prices as
their reason for the strike.
As part of the strike, drivers at the South Station refused
to pick up passengers in the southern governorates.
Dozens of public transport bus owners in Maan Governorate announced that they are also striking in solidarity with truck owners.
Truck owners and drivers began the strike in Aqaba and Maan
on Sunday, decrying the increase in fuel prices, the deterioration of the
shipping sector, and a four-year freeze of minimum wage in the transportation
sector.
The Truck Owners Association and the Land Transport
Regulatory Commission reached an agreement Tuesday; however, it was dismissed
by truck drivers who continued their strike.
The government announced that the new freight and container
shipping prices would be implemented as of Wednesday.
