AMMAN — The Social Security Corporation (SSC) announced Monday that only the most crucial articles — those backed by actuarial studies — were included in the SSC draft law approved by the Cabinet a day prior, some media outlets reported. اضافة اعلان

Only 30 percent of the proposed legislation’s original amendments remain in the latest version of the text, the corporation said.

One amendment that passed the test allows military personnel enrolled in social security to retire before the age of 45 if they have served for at least 20 years, the SSC said. Furthermore, an additional year of service will be added to military and security personnel in line with a 2020 Royal Decree, as long as they were active members at the time the decree was issued.

Another amendment reduced insurance contributions in private sector establishments if they hire unemployed youth and individuals entering the labor market for the first time.

If passed, the new legislation will make the Cabinet responsible for appointing the SSC’s chairman, rather than the minister of labor. It will also make the Investment Board responsible for electing the vice chairman of the SSC and the vice chairman of the Social Security Investment Fund.

According to the SSC, the most notable among the dropped amendments pertain to abolishing health insurance — to make way for further scientific studies in partnership with stakeholders — and maintaining the current minimum retirement age for men and women at 60 and 55 respectively.

The SSC statement emphasized that any future amendment to the Social Security Law will only happen after extensive studies are conducted with the aim of preserving the financial and actuarial sustainability of the corporation and enabling it to fulfill its obligations to subscribers.
