AMMAN — Social media platform TikTok was
suspended in Jordan for the third consecutive day as of Sunday after a report
from the
Public Security Directorate (PSD) stated that videos circulating on
the app have incited violence.

Minister of Digital Economy and Entrepreneurship
Ahmad Al-Hanandeh had previously said that a communiqué received from PSD
indicated that the platform’s services would be temporarily discontinued until
further notice.
Jordanians across the Kingdom have been complaining
about the suspension of TikTok since the Cyber Security Unit announced the
decision on Friday. The hashtag
#TikTok was trending locally on Twitter after
many users announced that they had lost TikTok services.
The unit subsequently announced that the suspension
was due to the fact that TikTok “had not dealt with misuses of the platform, in
which users had glorified and spread acts of violence and promoted videos from
outside Jordan, falsifying them to influence public sentiment”.
The unit announced that it monitors “everything posted on
social media, especially hate speech and incitements to vandalism”, and will
bring to justice anyone who commits such crimes.
