AMMAN — Chair of the Lower House Water and Agriculture Committee, Muhammad Al-Alaqmeh, confirmed that the committee will hold a meeting with the Minister of Water Mohammad Al-Najjar regarding reports on a water agreement that was signed with Israel, Jo24 reported.اضافة اعلان

“We want to know if the government has signed such an agreement. Why was it not presented to Parliament? Who is the party that signed the agreement? The Jordanian Constitution obliges the government to present any agreement to Parliament if it involves using funds from the Treasury,” Alaqma said.

He added that the committee raised the question of whether a letter of intent was signed or if an agreement was reached between Jordan and Israel.

Israeli media reported this week that Israel will start supplying the West Bank, Gaza Strip, and Jordan with desalinated water, with one Israeli official describing it as “an ambitious step”.

According to Israeli media, Israel’s Water Authority and the Mekorot company will begin pumping desalinated water from the Mediterranean Sea and groundwater to Lake Tiberias.
