No official statement was made by the
authorities regarding the return of the platform’s services.
As of Wednesday, the
platform began a
gradual resumption of services in Jordan as it was reactivated intermittently
for a large number of users, Khaberni reported.
The suspension began last Friday when users
were unable to access the social media platform across the Kingdom. The
temporary, Kingdom-wide suspension was due to “the platform’s failure to deal
with content inciting violence”, and “misuse” during the strike by truck and
transportation drivers, a statement by the Public Security Directorate’s (PSD) Cybercrime
Unit said.
On Wednesday, the platform began a gradual resumption of services in Jordan as it was reactivated intermittently for a large number of users.
Prior to an official announcement concerning
the suspension, TikTok users reported that the platform had stopped working in
Jordan. The hashtag “
TikTok” also became a top trending hashtag on Twitter.
During the suspension, many Jordanians
continued to access TikTok via virtual private networks (VPNs).
PSD’s Cybercrime Unit stressed that it
monitors posts on social media for hate speech, incitement to vandalism, and
assaults on law enforcement personnel and property. It said that the
authorities will refer anyone who commits such crimes to the judiciary.
