AMMAN — The Petra Development and Tourism Region Authority (PDTRA) evacuated
visitors from Petra as heavy
downpours flooded the archeological site.

According
to Amman Net, the evacuations came to ensure the safety of visitors.
Water
from surrounding mountains poured down into the rose-red city as heavy rains
poured in the south of the Kingdom.
Three

official source stated that three people were injured after a coaster bus
tipped over due to torrential rain in the
Maan governorate south of the
Kingdom.
Maan's
main emergency operations center said the bus was washed up by torrential rain
on the road to the Al-Hussein Bin Talal University.
The
university released a statement shortly after the incident occurred, suspending
classes due to the unsafe weather conditions, the Jordan News Agency, Petra,
reported.
Director
of the Jordan Meteorological Department Raed Khattab told Petra earlier today
that the southern governorates could expect the most precipitation.
Dead
Sea routes to Aqaba, Karak closed Also on
Monday, downpours from rainwater blocked the road between the Dead Sea and
Aqaba governorate.
The
Public Security Directorate (PSD) said that the competent authorities were
dealing with landslides and rock collapses around the Dead Sea Panorama road
due to heavy rains.
The
Wadi Al-Qamr Road in Russeifa and another road heading to Ghor Safi have also
been precautionarily closed because of high water levels.
Ministry of Public Works and Housing teams, in cooperation with PSD, also closed the
Dead Sea–Karak Road due to mud, falling rocks, and dust due to heavy rainfall.
These measures,
said the ministry, are precautionary and temporary.
Competent
teams were sent to remove all obstacles from the road.
PSD
advised people to avoid low-lying areas, valleys, and flood streams and to move
to areas higher to high-lying areas.
