AMMAN — In continuation of His Majesty King
Abdullah's meeting with representatives and leading figures from Aqaba last
week, Royal Hashemite Court Chief Yousef Issawi, per Royal directives, met with
the city's representatives on Saturday to find out their demands, proposals,
and needs.

According to the Jordan News Agency, Petra,
Issawi emphasized His Majesty's commitment to easing pressure on citizens and finding
opportunities to reduce poverty and unemployment, especially by supporting
small and medium projects and home projects for youth, women, and associations.
He also affirmed the King's care to facilitate the process
of financing and licensing these types of projects.
During the meeting, Aqaba representatives and leading
figures stressed the importance of the King's visits to the city, which
reflects His Majesty's keenness to continuously communicate with the area and
check on their needs and demands.
The speakers also called for supporting the tourism and
economic sector, improving the infrastructure, and providing job opportunities
for young people. They also asked for the Youth and Entrepreneurship Commission
to be activated as an incubator for the rehabilitation and training of young
people and owners of small projects.
Representatives also asked to create alternative energy
projects that contribute to providing electricity and water for the governorate
to help reduce costs and improve investments, especially regarding the tourism
sector.
They also underlined the importance of
supporting employment programs, especially for women, and facilitating their licensing by the Aqaba
Special Economic Zone Authority (ASEZA).
The importance of improving educational services was also
emphasized, especially vocational and technical education, and representatives
suggested the establishment of an industrial school.
They also called for creating medical specializations in
cooperation between the public and private sectors and the Royal Medical
Services.
They called for
developing legislation regulating the
ASEZA's work, devising a strategic plan to develop the region within a
timetable and specific criteria, eliminating bureaucracy, and adopting a single
window to ease the burden on investors, facilitate procedures and attract
tourists.
They also called for establishing a branch of the Royal
Hashemite Court's Public Services Office in Aqaba and a club for military
retirees.
Issawi said that there is Royal interest in these projects,
adding that they will greatly impact the development of Aqaba in various fields
and job creation.
He noted that several Royal initiatives projects were
implemented in the past few years in various regions of the Aqaba Governorate.
He said that the next stage would focus on production and
development projects that provide jobs for young people.
Issawi said that all addressed demands and needs will be
submitted to King Abdullah and will be coordinated with competent authorities
to be examined and followed up according to priorities and capabilities and in
line with the government's plans and programs and with follow-up from the Royal
Hashemite Court.
