Kharabsheh’s address,
presented during the meetings of the 13th session of the IRENA general assembly,
which began on Saturday in Abu Dhabi, highlighted Jordan's efforts to serve as
a center for the production and export of green energy, whether electricity or
green hydrogen, which is produced without any negative environmental impact,
Al-Mamlaka TV reported.
In this regard, the
minister highlighted a detailed feasibility study completed by Jordan for an
electricity storage project that will rely on hydropower from Wadi Mujib Dam
and yield an estimated capacity of 450 megawatts. The project tender is
expected to be launched soon, he said.
Kharabsheh also praised
the UAE's permanent sponsorship of the work of IRENA, a global
intergovernmental agency for energy transformation that serves as a key platform
for international cooperation, supports countries in energy transitions, and
provides data and analyses in the field of energy.
During the general
assembly session, Kharabsheh and his accompanying delegation met with Mohammed
Jamil Al-Ramahi, CEO of the Abu Dhabi Future Energy Company, Masdar, to review
the company’s investments in the field of renewable energy in Jordan and its
interest in future projects.
The meeting focused on
a memorandum of understanding that was recently signed at COP27 in Sharm
El-Sheikh to establish renewable energy projects with a capacity of 2 gigawatts
in Jordan.
