"Israel continues to provoke the feelings of a billion Muslims by desecrating the blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque” and preventing access to the site, Hmoud said, criticizing Israeli forces for blocking Jordan’s envoy to Tel Aviv from accessing the complex on Tuesday.

Speaking during an open session of the UN Security Council, Hmoud also made reference to far-right Israeli Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir and his recent storming of Al-Aqsa Mosque — a "condemnable and dangerous" development and “a push towards conflict, violence, and instability”.

Condemning Israeli violence, subversive actsLooking back, the envoy recalled 2022 as one of the "bloodiest" years for Palestinians after the occupied West Bank witnessed repeated escalations of violence, including many killings by Israeli soldiers. Israeli actions, he said, “push the Middle East towards violence and deprive people of their right to peace”.

"Israel continues to displace residents from their homes — including in Jerusalem,” he said, noting that such aggressions represent an attempt “to change the identity of the city, which constitutes a war crime and a violation of international law.”

Hmoud also denounced Israel’s "punitive measures" towards Palestinians, urging the UN Security Council to uphold international law and halt illegal Israeli measures in Jerusalem and the rest of the occupied Palestinian territories.

Jordan, he said, will continue to support Palestinians in establishing an independent and sovereign state according to the June 4, 1967 borders.
