AMMAN — Lower House Speaker Ahmad Safadi strongly condemned
the recent burning of a
Quran in Stockholm by a far-right politician, calling
it "an extremist act on par with any other act of terrorism."

He reiterated that exercising freedom of speech is not a
justification for insulting or disparaging other people's religions or beliefs,
the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.
During a Lower House session on Monday, Safadi called on the government to
address the Swedish embassy in Amman and demand that Stockholm condemn such
actions and apologize to all Muslims.
The speaker said that such behaviors offend
Muslims and the Quran, which “exhorts
love, goodness, justice, equality, and the common good”.
"Such practices are absurdities that undermine security
and stability and blatantly go against human, moral, and religious values and
principles, and the Swedish government must put an end to them", Safadi
added.
This act of Quran burning was done by Rasmus Paludan, leader
of the Danish far-right political party Hard Line, during a protest outside of
the Turkish embassy in Stockholm.
The incident has sparked widespread condemnation from Arab
countries and has led to the cancellation of a visit from Sweden, which aimed
to lift Turkey's objections to Sweden's bid for NATO membership.
