Faisal Al-Shboul emphasized the importance of the Arab Media
Forum, in the framework of the Arab League, to achieve aspirations and
strategic goals to confront the challenges facing Arab media, according to a
local media outlet.

The eighth edition of the Arab Media
Forum launched on Saturday in Amman.
In a speech at the forum, Shboul
stressed the need for “all of us to work together to combat what threatens our
communities as a result of the negative use of social media, and the influence
of some media outlets with hateful speech, privacy violations, and fake or
misleading news”.
Empowering Arab mediaShboul pointed to the need to
empower Arab media to be level with social media platforms that dominate the
advertising market globally.
“It is necessary to establish
concepts of media and informational education in our communities, especially
among emerging generations,” he said.
“We have to develop practical courses and programs in universities and
media institutes to face the risks arising from the negative use of social
media.”
Jordan has a “mature experience” in
the field of media and information education, he said, noting that the Kingdom
has begun integrating the aforementioned concepts into all educational
curricula in schools.
Due to the rise in electronic crimes
around the world during and after the COVID-19 pandemic, according to academic
research, there are more opportunities for hacking, cyber-attacks, fraud, as
well as hate speech, and sexual exploitation of children, he said.
There are 175 million active social
media accounts in the
Arab world, and that it is important to work together to
combat the negative effects of social media and promote media and information
education.
