AMMAN —
Former prime minister
Taher Al-Masri said that Jordan cannot cancel its
Wadi Araba peace treaty with Israel due to political and international reasons,
despite the current conditions caused by Israel’s extremist right-wing
government, Hala News reported.

In a dialogue
session on recent Palestinian developments held on Monday at the Jordanian Masarat
Foundation for Development, which saw the participation of politicians,
representatives of the media, and academics,
Masri stressed the importance of
maintaining awareness on the threat Israel poses towards Palestine and Jordan
under Netanyahu’s extremist government.
Members of the
current hard-line Israeli government were responsible for the killing of former
Israeli Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin, he said, and “they are the ones who have
disrupted peace in the region”.
These government
officials are working to change the basic system of Israeli government, and
because of this, they are a
danger to Jordan, he added.
Masri warned of
the gravity of recent Israeli actions and plans targeting the Kingdom.
Palestine, he said, is Jordan’s foremost cause, but the Kingdom must also
protect itself — which is the role of Jordanian diplomacy.
