AMMAN — Spokesperson for the Public Security Directorate stated that, after investigative efforts, Anti-Narcotics Department (AND) personnel were able to bring down a criminal network that had counterfeited a quantity of the
new JD50 currency and began circulating it in a number of commercial stores.

According to the spokesperson, information had reached the department about unknown individuals circulating counterfeit banknotes of the JD50 denomination in a number of commercial stores in the Balqa Governorate, Amman, and Russeifa. Investigative teams took on the case to uncover the individuals involved and arrest them, Al-Ghad News reported.
The spokesperson confirmed that the investigations and information-gathering efforts led the investigators to suspect four individuals who were all apprehended in the capital inside one vehicle and an apartment with 184 counterfeit banknotes (equivalent of JD9,200) and a quantity of
narcotics.
InvestigationDuring the investigation, they admitted to receiving these counterfeit banknotes from the main forger located in the Governorate of
Aqaba before heading to the capital, central provinces, and Aqaba to circulate the currency, taking advantage of the low circulation of the new currency among traders and their lack of knowledge about it, despite its poor imitation.
The spokesperson further stated that a security force in the city of Aqaba had raided and arrested the main forger and seized counterfeit banknotes, printers, ink, laptops, and equipment used to counterfeit the currency. They will all be referred to the State Security Court prosecutor.
The spokesperson urged everyone to check the currency before circulating it, especially since it is easy to detect due to the poor counterfeiting method, and to report any suspicions through the unified emergency number (911).
