PM inaugurates largest solar power plant in Jordan

AMMAN — Prime Minister Bisher Al-Khasawneh inaugurated the largest solar power plant in the Kingdom, the Baynouna Solar Power Plant, on Saturday, according to AmmanNet. اضافة اعلان



The plant has a production capacity of up to 200 megawatts and is expected to contribute to the country's climate and clean energy goals while providing new job opportunities and supporting economic development.

The project is led by Masdar, Abu Dhabi's Future Energy Company, and was developed on behalf of the state utility National Electric Power Company.

The Finnish investment company, Taaleri Group, also has a 30 percent stake in the plant.

Reducing emissionsThe Baynouna Solar Power Plant is expected to avoid the emission of 360,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide annually, which is equivalent to offsetting the emissions from approximately 80,000 cars on the roads.

The plant will produce more than 560 gigawatts per hour of energy annually, enough to meet the annual energy needs of approximately 160,000 homes.

The inauguration was attended by the UAE's Minister of Industry and Advanced Technology, Sultan bin Ahmed Al-Jaber.
