The ministry has also temporarily
suspended the registration of these vehicles with the vehicle licensing
authorities in the UAE, Khaberni reported.
The ministry stated that this
decision excludes electric cars that have been purchased by individuals and
paid for prior to the date of this decision, provided that this exception does
not extend to the purchase of exhibition cars for those electric cars referred
to.
Battery defect prompts global recallThe ban follows
Volkswagen's recall of its ID.4 and ID.3 models worldwide due to a battery defect.
The company said that the battery
cells have increased self-discharge due to a manufacturing defect, and that any
batteries with problems will be replaced based on diagnostic data.
The recall affected more than
120,000 vehicles globally.
Jordanian, Egyptian car owners
report technical malfunctions, firesThe ban came as a shock to Jordanian
traders and owners, as the affected Volkswagen models have become popular on
Jordanian streets despite warnings from experts about the lack of warranty for
maintenance.
Some vehicle owners in Jordan and
Egypt have reported sudden technical malfunctions that have caused significant
financial losses, as well as fires in the cars.
These vehicles were specifically
made for the Chinese markets whose batteries are suitable for China's climate.
