On Sunday during an event in Paris,
Israeli Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich, a Religious Zionism leader, had used a map
of Israel that included within its borders the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan and
the occupied Palestinian Territories.
Ambassador summonedIn response, Jordan’s Ministry of Foreign
Affairs summoned the Israeli ambassador to Amman on Monday evening and informed
him that the act constituted “racist and extremist behavior that violates international
norms and the Jordanian-Israeli peace treaty”.
The ambassador was given a strongly-worded
message of protest to convey immediately to his government, confirming Jordan’s
condemnation of “racist, inflammatory, and extremist statements” made by the
Israeli minister concerning the Palestinian people and their right to an
independent and sovereign state on Palestinian national soil, and warning
against the continuation of racist acts like those exhibited by the Israeli
minister.
