AMMAN — Director-General of the Income and Sales Tax Department Hussam Abu Ali said that the department received 175,000 tax returns for 2021, according to Al-Ghad News.اضافة اعلان

Abu Ali said that all returns were submitted electronically, by both individuals and companies, as part of the department's policy to providing services digitally.

The legal period for submitting tax returns for 2021 ends on April 30.

The department urged merchants, industrialists, services providers, professionals, and craftsmen to submit their income tax returns for 2021, to pay the declared amounts electronically as soon as possible, and not to delay submitting them to avoid being fined fines.

Employees who receive yearly salaries that exceed JD9,000 (non-supporters) and JD18,000 (breadwinners) are obliged to submit income tax returns, the department indicated.

The fact that income tax is deducted from employees’ salaries does not mean that taxpayers are exempt from submitting income tax returns, according to Abu Ali.

Abu Ali said that the department will submit a bid for the electronic billing system project during March or April; currently the related procedures are being completed.

Abu Ali said that a committee from the Ministry of Digital Economy and Entrepreneurship is tasked with the bidding process for this system that will link all sectors with the department electronically.

The system aims to reduce tax evasion and increase the efficiency of collection, and thus increase the Treasury revenues.
