included benefiting from the free trade agreements signed between Jordan and
the US, Canada, and Singapore; the Greater Arab Free Trade Area; and the

countries' leaderships' attention to strengthen economic and trade relations,
stressing the importance of Japanese embassy in Jordan in enhancing joint
economic and trade ties.
Affirming the ministry's keenness to continue joint
cooperation at all levels, Shamali lauded the continuous support provided by
the Japanese government to Jordan in many economic sectors.
Discussions also tackled possibility of signing a framework
trade agreement to regulate Jordanian-Japanese trade cooperation, which
includes a proposal to establish a joint ministerial trade committee for
cooperation, the statement said.
The two sides also underlined the importance of exchanging
trade delegations' visits to check firsthand on Jordan's investment
opportunities and focus on the Kingdom's sectors with export opportunities in
the Japanese market, especially olive oil, dates, phosphate, potash, and Dead
Sea products, the statement noted.
Shamali and Shimazaki discussed enhancing cooperation in
information technology, higher education fields, and investment promotion.
Discussions also went over ways to benefit from Japan's
expertise in many areas of common interest, especially industrial development,
support for small and medium-sized enterprises, and energy alternatives, the
statement added.
This projected cooperation also aims to expand Jordan's
utilization of solar and wind energy, and urge major Japanese companies to
study possibility of investing in Jordan in renewable energy, waste treatment,
and railway projects, and integrate new transportation and environment
technology through a public-private partnership, the statement read.
