The Arab League General Secretariat called the minister's use of a map of Israel that includes Jordan within its borders an act of "absurdity that reflects complete ignorance of history and geography, and represents a flagrant provocation to national feelings and a departure from the simplest rules of politics and diplomacy".

The General Secretariat held the Israeli government responsible for the consequences of the minister's statements and other similar extremist positions.

GCC responseIn a related development, the Secretary-General of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), Jassem Budaiwi, also condemned Smotrich’s "offensive and racist" statements on Tuesday.

"This behavior is a blatant violation of the sovereignty of a sister Arab country… and a violation of the peace treaty signed between Jordan and Israel."
He affirmed the GCC's firm support for the Palestinian Cause and the establishment of an independent Palestinian state on the June 4, 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital.
