During a meeting on Wednesday chaired by
Acting Prime Minister Tawfiq Kreishan, the Cabinet approved the rationale for a draft
regulation aimed at developing Wadi Rum, in preparation
for sending it to the Legislation and Opinion Bureau to complete the required
procedures for issuing it.
The project
includes involves a buffer zone surrounding the Wadi Rum Reserve, after which
the
Wadi Rum region will consist of both the buffer zone and the reserve
itself, with special provisions for both areas. The boundaries of the buffer
zone are to be determined by the Council of Ministers.
In accordance
with the draft regulation, a
special committee consisting of a chairperson and
six members will be formed to oversee the region.
A special
administration will also be established within the organizational structure of
the Aqaba Special Economic Zone Authority (ASEZA), consisting of
administrative, financial, and
technical staff qualified to oversee the region.
