AMMAN —
Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Ayman Al-Safadi said on Tuesday
that the “racist, inflammatory statements” made by Israeli Finance Minister
Bezalel Smotrich on Sunday, along with his platform bearing an alleged map of
Israel including Jordan and the occupied Palestinian Territories within its
borders, reflect “extremist, racist, exclusivist thought”.

Jordan, he said, has confirmed its
condemnation, denunciation, and rejection of this behavior and has communicated
with the international community to highlight the danger of this exclusivist
and racist approach and its repercussions on the Israel-Palestine peace
process, Al-Mamlaka TV reported.
Speaking during a press conference, Safadi
stressed that the Israeli minister’s statements "will not affect Jordan or
the rights of the Palestinian people", calling on the Israeli government
to “clearly declare that the minister's speech does not represent its
position”.
Clear Jordanian stance"We are unshaken by the words of an
extremist racist, and the whole world knows his racism, extremism, and
exclusivist, inflammatory ideology,” Safadi said.
Safadi stressed that the Israeli minister’s statements "will not affect Jordan or the rights of the Palestinian people", calling on the Israeli government to “clearly declare that the minister's speech does not represent its position”
Jordan continually expresses its rejection of
such extremist statements, and “we will take the necessary measures in the
event such provocations escalate to communicate the Jordanian position
clearly”.
Statements by Israeli officialsThe Kingdom has received many
statements from Israeli officials affirming that Israel is committed to its peace treaty
with Jordan, and that it respects the borders and integrity of the Hashemite
Kingdom of Jordan and values and appreciates the Kingdom’s role in the region.
“The
Israeli government should clearly state that the minister's words do not represent it, and that the officials'
statements confirm the government's position," Safadi said.
Efforts to calm tensionsRegarding the approaching
holy month of Ramadan, Safadi said: "If there is an escalation, Jordan will do what is
necessary not only to protect its positions, but also to support the
Palestinian people."
The Kingdom, he said, has "made
intense efforts in coordination with Egypt, the US, and the international
community, and in full coordination with the Palestinian Authority, to halt
illegal Israeli measures and provide
protection for the Palestinian people, and
to confront the extremist, racist ideology that has begun to emerge in the
statements and actions of Israeli government officials."
"As always, Jordan has been clear and proactive in protecting its interests and rights, and has worked unceasingly to support our brotherly Palestinian people and stand by them, and we will continue to do so,"
"We are aware of what we are dealing
with, and we know that there are great challenges, but as always, Jordan has
been clear and proactive in protecting its interests and rights, and has worked
unceasingly to
support our brotherly Palestinian people and stand by them, and
we will continue to do so," Safadi said. “This is an ongoing
process."
‘Evil’ occupationRegarding the recent Aqaba and
SharmEl-Sheikh summits, Safadi said: “This is a step that began against a backdrop
of years without any communication.”
“When Jordan speaks, the steadfast and
unchanging Jordanian position emerges to the effect that the occupation is the
root of evil, and that the region will not enjoy security, peace, and
stability, unless the occupation ends and the brotherly Palestinian people
obtain their full rights.”
