Buhaji affirmed his company's commitment to
boosting cooperation with Jordan in the field of sustainable energy,
highlighting the Kingdom's strategic location as a key investment destination,
the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.
Masdar's investments in Jordan, worth $500
million, began in 2015 with the Tafileh
Wind Farm, which produces 117 megawatts
or 3 percent of Jordan's total energy product. The company has also partnered
with the Kingdom in the Baynouna Solar Power Plant — the largest solar power
project in Jordan, generating 563 gigawatts annually (4 percent of annual power
consumption), Buhaji noted.
Jordan and the UAE had signed a memorandum
of understanding on the sidelines of the 2022 United Nations Climate Change
Conference (COP27) to further explore renewable energy projects and information
and technology exchange in green energy fields.
This partnership will help the Kingdom in
reaching its target of 50 percent sustainable energy by 2030, where the current
rate stands around 29 percent.
