Many influencers, he added, have had
an "excellent response" regarding their obligation to pay taxes,
Khaberni reported.
In August of 2022, the department allocated
a team of its employees to ensure that
social media influencers who make money
from their activities online — income that is taxable — submit tax returns and
pay the due taxes.
At the time, reactions from
social media personalities, interviewed by Jordan News, regarding the decision,
varied.
Some welcomed the decision, citing
that the outcome will benefit the national interest, others criticized it,
saying that the government does not provide influencers any support, and
therefore making money from them is “illogical”.
According to Abu Ali, "many
social media personalities have paid their dues".
He added that the social media influencer
file was not referred to the tax evasion department.
